Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 11/07 – 11/13

 

 

The weather is colder, and the holiday season is approaching. 

There are many wins this week that will keep you warm in the indoors! From wine dinners to a casino night, to a silent disco and tasting, there is plenty going on in The District to make the second week of November fun!

Not to mention, the first DMV Black Restaurant Week will go on all week, which aims to show off black culinary and bar talent in the DC area.

If you want to get outside this week, you DO NOT want to miss the DC’s inaugural 0.5K Underachievers “Run”!

Wednesday, November 7

 

– From 5:30 to 10 p.m.., there will be cocktails and conversation event at 1230 Africana Fusion. You will get to engage with bartender and hospitality enthusiast, Ashtin Berry while eating and drinking remarkable food and cocktails and joining in on the All the Fly Kids podcast. This is an event that is part of DMV Black Restaurant Week. Tickets are free, however, you must RSVP!

– The great thing about Wine Wednesday is you can never count out champagne. Fairmont Washington will host a Bubbles, Bites, and Beats event Wednesday night from 7 to 11 p.m. Guests will enjoy complimentary hors-d’oeuvres until 9 p.m. There will also be a cash bar and music from two DJs. Tickets are free, however, if you purchase the $5.99 ticket you will receive general admission plus a complimentary glass of champagne. Garance Thienot, owner of Champagnes Thienot, will make a special appearance at the event.

– An exquisite wine dinner will be held at Bourbon Steak from 7 to 10 p.m. The dinner will feature four courses of seasonal game birds prepared by Chef Drew Adams. Each course will be paired with a wine from winemaker, Jean-Michel Guillon. Guillon travels to the U.S. only twice a year, so this is a very unique opportunity to learn about the wines he makes. Thursday, November 8

– Have a good time Thursday night at Nest DC and Roost DC’s 3rd Annual Casino Night.” There will be prizes, games, cocktails, food, and a raffle. Proceeds from the event will benefit La Clinica del Pueblo, which seeks to remove barriers that make it difficult to access healthcare and reduce discrepancies in the health of the Latino community. The event will take place at Josephine Butler Parks Center from 6:30 to 11 p.m. High roller entry fee is $125, and the young professional/community supporter fee is $50.

– An “Awesome Hour” happy hour and dinner event will take place at The Park at 14th, from 5 to 11 p.m. The same creators of Litty in the City Brunch + Day party will put on this event. Happy hour is from 5 to 7 p.m., and the dinner party lasts until 10 p.m. Enjoy a night of delicious food, aesthetic decor, and good vibes!

Friday, November 9

If you’re like most people, at some point you’ve probably participated in a 5K to prove how much of an achiever you are. Our 1st evet 0.5K Underachievers “Run” is the exact opposite of that, but way more fun in our opinion. Rather than racing for top times, you’ll embark on an afternoon bar crawl that has all the frills of race day, including an official race bib, sweatbands, carb loading, and a commemorative oval-style sticker for your car. Of course, the day will also be filled drink specials and lots of new friends.

– Meet, eat, shop is the theme of this food marketplace and festival. It’s called The Emporiyum, and will feature many delicious foods and drink from around the country including various types of prepared dishes, sweets, condiments, beers, and cocktails! The food marketplace and festival will take place at Dock 5 at Union Market. A general admission ticket gains you entrance into the curated marketplace. You will also get to meet and learn from Justin Schuble, the man who is responsible for @DCFOODPORN.

– Are you a rum drinker? If you are, you don’t want to miss the Taste of Rum Pop-Up US Tour. The event will be put on by Rums of Puerto Rico at Cafe Citron. You will learn all about the history of the Rum Capital of the World, the culture, music, and of course, its rum. The event will feature a happy hour, special rum cocktails, live music, salsa lessons, and give-a-ways! The event begins at 6 p.m.

– The holiday season is upon us. Head to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia for the first weekend of “Winter Walk of Lights.” The walk is a half-mile long, full of animated light attractions. After taking a walk through the magnificent lights, check out the snowflake shop, garden gift shop, and the s’more snack shop! Tickets are $14.

Saturday, November 10

– Are you participating in No Shave November? Even if you aren’t, come help raise awareness of men’s health issues by supporting the Movember Foundation at their 4th Annual Pig Roast. The event will be held at Little Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar from 3 to 8 p.m. For $60, you will be able to eat and drink as much as you want, plus participate in a cash raffle and silent auction. Food will be provided by Chef Ryan Gordon from Queen Vic. Cold beverages will be provided by DC Brau Brewing Company.

– You’ve heard of silent disco we’re sure, but what about a silent tasting? From 6 to 10 p.m., Red Rocks will host a silent tastings event on their heated rooftop. You will get to hear a variety of music including Top 40, Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B, and many more genres. While switching channels on your headphones to listen to what the DJs are playing, a variety of cocktails will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15.

Sunday, November 11

 

– Have you always wanted to learn how to salsa and bachata? Now is your chance! Las Chicas Locas’ Salsa and Bachata Dance Party will take place at 7:30 p.m., at Lucky Strikes. Admission is free. Come out, and learn some new dancing skills!

– Who doesn’t love trying out yummy food and cocktails? At 12:30 p.m., Chef Mia will host an exclusive menu paired with cocktails party, at Diet Starts Monday. A $35 general admission ticket will get you a complimentary entree and cocktail.

– FITNESS2GO will host a boot camp brunch and beer event at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston, Virginia. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will be a morning full of fitness and food. Get a good workout in, and reward yourself with brunch and a few drinks! See what food and drinks will be available at the event here. Tickets are $22.62.

Monday, November 12

– Start off your week on a healthy note with Yoga n’ Vegan Lunch. Not only will you get to practice yoga and find harmony through different poses, but you will also get to enjoy a vegan lunch afterward! The yoga starts at 1:30, and the vegan lunch will be held after. Tickets are $25.

– Mondays are always hard. If you need a good pick me up, take you and your significant other to Date Night at Ben’s Next Door. Full menu specials will be available for two people for $30. These specials include two alcoholic beverages, one entrée and a dessert to share.

– Washington DC will turn into one giant game board during the Amazing Scavenger Hunt Adventure. Elements from the Amazing Race and a three-hour city tour are combined to create this fun event. Teams will travel through popular and even overlooked landmarks of the city, while solving clues, completing challenges, and learning about the city’s history. Tuesday, November 13

– Burgers and beer is one of the best combinations of all time. Enjoy a night of this delicious combo at Basic Burger in Arlington, Virginia. Each Basic Burger tasting will be paired with a Port City Brewery beer. Tickets are $30.
