Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 9/19 – 9/25
The official last days of summer are here.
Pumpkin spice lattes are already being consumed by the minute, and Halloween decorations are out in stores. But, we still have one more week of wins up our sleeves that will let you enjoy the warm weather and sunshine.
This week’s edition includes an oyster fest, an adult field day, rooftop happy hour, and a few concerts, not to mention a home Redskins game.

Wednesday, September 19
– Everyone needs a good mid-week laugh. Head to Ri Ra Irish Pub to enjoy stand-up comics starting at 8 p.m. There event is free, and seating is first come, first served. Get there early so you can secure a spot!
– Donald Glover aka. Childish Gambino will perform at the Capital One Arena Wednesday night, at 7:30. Another highly popular rapper, Rae Sremmurd, will open the show. Glover and Sremmurd have had many songs on Billboard’s Top 100. The lowest priced tickets on Ticketmaster are currently $49.50.
Thursday, September 20
– This week is DC Fashion Week. Grab your best outfit and go to The Living Room DC for a fashion industry networking party. If fashion is your hobby, side business, or job, this is a great way to connect with like-minded people. You will get to meet bloggers, models, and designers, make-up artists, and more. The event will feature a fashion show, DJ, and after-party. Admission is free, but you can register here.
– Spend your Thursday night doing something good. If you like to kayak and help out the environment, the Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation is putting on a litter clean up along the streambank of Four Mile Run. Bring your own kayak, and if you don’t have one, you can ask to borrow one from the foundation. If kayaking isn’t your thing, you can help clean up along the shore as well! Register here.
Friday, September 21
– Elton John will make his way to The District Friday night. His last ever tour, “Elton John: Farewell Yellow Brick Road,” will begin at 8 p.m. at the Capital One Arena. The cheapest tickets currently available on Ticketmaster are $169.00
– As summer officially comes to an end on Saturday, movie nights at Chinatown Park will show its final movie Friday night. “Kung Fu Panda 3” will be shown, and popcorn and mooncakes will be given out for free. Make sure to bring your own blankets and chairs! The movie will begin at 6:30. You can get your free general admission ticket here.
– If you haven’t checked out MGM at National Harbor yet, now is your chance. The resort will host a patio party at Fish by Jose Andres. The party will feature superb rose, Spanish cider, and many other different cocktails and food that represents the best of summer but also gives you a taste of fall and winter. There will be live music, garden games, photos and more. Wear summer whites, or your summer’s best. Tickets are $70.
Saturday, September 22
– Remember the “Legally Blonde” movies? Reese Witherspoon is so easy to love, and the good news for us and you is she will be at The Anthem Saturday night! Witherspoon’s book tour is called “Whiskey in a Teacup,” and the focus of the tour is what growing up in the south taught her about “life, love, and making biscuits.” The live conversation will begin at 8 p.m. You can purchase tickets here.
– Take advantage of the Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live and get free admission to arguably the coolest museum in DC, the Newseum. All you have to do is download your Museum Day Live! ticket, present it to the admissions desk, and you will receive two free tickets for Saturday.
– We all know one of the things Maryland can brag about is their seafood. If you love oysters, wine, and a good time, make sure to check out the Chesapeake Oyster and Wine Festival in Oxon Hill, Maryland Saturday and Sunday. Yummy seafood including a vast selection of oysters, jumbo lump crab cakes, lobster rolls, and lobster mac and cheese will be served, in addition to an array of international and domestic wines. Tickets are $40.
Sunday, September 23
– The Washington Redskins will take on the Green Bay Packers Sunday at 1 p.m. It is the Redskins second home game, and after a loss at home last week, the Redskins will look to take a win from Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. The lowest priced tickets are currently going for $80.
– Come on out to the DC State Fair Sunday, and see the District’s best agricultural and creative talents for free! The fair will feature cooking competitions to find the best mumbo sauce, honey, a competition to find the best hula hooper, and a pet parade. It’s going to be an awesome day of fun. – If you’re like us, you love to play all day every day. Field day was always a blast in elementary school, and you can relive those days this Sunday at, “2018 Adult Play Date: An Adult Field Day (Pop-Up Edition.)” A variety of field day games such as basketball, relay races, flag tag, cornhole, and many other fun activities are just some of what will go on. In addition, you will be able to enjoy free food samples from Legal Seafoods. Individual tickets are $20 and group tickets are $13.90.
Monday, September 24
– Get a fresh start to your week with some free exercise. The fall sessions for DC Run Crew HIIT and RUN sessions begin Monday, 7 p.m. at Banneker Recreation Center. By participating in a session, you will experience a hybrid workout, with high-intensity interval training with anaerobic and aerobic cardio. All fitness levels are welcome.
Tuesday, September 25
- Love talking about the environment and a good happy hour? You can do both at Green Drinks DC Rooftop Happy Hour Monday night from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will be held at Up Top Acres. You can RSVP here.
