Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 10/17 – 10/23

 

 

It’s getting closer and closer to Halloween…which means we have a few spooky wins for you this week!

Ghost tours, Halloween bar crawl, a Thriller dance class, and Day of the Dead kick-off party can definitely help you get in the Halloween spirit.

If spooky isn’t your thing, there are plenty of non-spooky events going on in The District this week. Wine tastings, an oyster festival, food tastings, and a Margaritaville Day Party to name a few, should keep you plenty entertained!

Wednesday, October 17

– Get a taste of Columbia Heights at ¡Buen Provecho! If you consider yourself a foodie, you don’t want to miss out on getting to experience different foods and cultures from restaurants along 14th Street, Irving Street, Park Road, and 11th Street. An all-inclusive ticket includes a self-guided walking tour and two tastes at each participating restaurant. Tickets are $35 and the event starts at 6 p.m.

– Need to unWINE after a long day at work? A French wine and champagne tasting sounds like the best way to do that, especially on a Monday. The tasting will be held at Ozio Lounge and is from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $60 in advance and $75 the day of.

Thursday, October 18

– The Washington Wizards first regular season game is at the Capital One Arena Thursday night. They will take on the Miami Heat at 8 p.m. Tickets are currently as low as $14. Come cheer on the Wizards to a home opener victory!

– You might have been on a stroll before, but what about a soul stroll? This creepy twist will expose you to the secrets of Congressional Cemetery “residents.” You will learn the stories of those who are buried at the cemetery on a guided tour from a costumed interpreter. The tours begin at twilight, and are an hour long. Tickets are $25. Beer, wine, and cider are available for purchase at the cash bar in the Chapel.

Friday, October 19

– Learning Michael Jackson’s moves while drinking wine is a dance class we’re always down to take. CityDance POP will teach you the Thriller dance and give you a glass of wine from 7 to 8 p.m. No dance experience? No problem. All skill levels are welcome. Tickets are $25 online and $30 at the door.

– The Capitals are at home Friday night. They will take on the Florida Panthers at 7 p.m. We are hoping for a win from our guys, after a few losses over the past couple of weeks. Let’s help them get that dub at home! The lowest priced tickets are going for $27.

Saturday, October 20

– Don’t nama-stay at home this weekend, join us for our next Silent Yoga Popup and start your Saturday on the right foot! The theme this time around is hip-hop. So drown out the noise of this busy city and relax with weekly themed yoga instruction through noise-canceling headphones followed by juice bar treats.

– We’re teaming up with Balance Gym this weekend for DC’s most awesome Halloween Scavenger Hunt. You’ll follow riddles to find 10 haunted locations across the city and take an Instagram picture documenting your success. Along the way, you will have other challenges involving feats of strength, food, alcohol, and hilarity. Your performance will be judged by the appropriate pictures and if you make it to the afterparty at Dacha by 2pm.

– Love hiking? Love great beer? Love hiking and great beer? Our Virginia Trails and Ales is the perfect way to spend an October Saturday afternoon. Hike along the Appalachian Trail, then after taking in views of the Potomac, join us at Breaux Vineyards for their Harvest Celebration and Oyster Throw Down.

– We’ve been looking forward to a Halloween bar crawl since the start of Fall. If you’ve been planning out the perfect costume for weeks, Friday night is the time to show it off. The crawl includes some of the most fun bars and venues in the area such as Public Bar, Decades, Manor, Dirty Martini, Rewind, and more. Amazing specials will be offered throughout the night, plus cool swag! The event will also feature live performances by Lectro Raiders and talented DJs. Tickets are $40 and the bar crawl is from 2 to 10 p.m.

– Spend your Saturday afternoon eating all-you-can-eat oysters, at the 11th annual OysterFest at Hanks in Old Town, Alexandria. All-you-can-drink premium craft beers will be available on tap, in addition to wine, and punch! Tickets are $95 and all-inclusive. The fest will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

– Why not waste away again in Margaritaville on Saturday? Barcode is hosting a Margaritaville Day Party from 5 to 10 p.m. During the first hour of the party, complimentary margs will be served and a special margarita menu will be available from 5 to 8 p.m. In addition, there will be happy hour the first two hours, and a DJ spinning soca, calypso, reggae, and hip-hop music. Tickets are $10.

– Did UFC 229 leave you craving more cage fighting action? The Professional Fighters League is a lesser-known MMA organization that’s bringing big-time competition to the octagon with over $10 million on the line. This year’s quarter and semifinals go down at EventsDC ’s brand new Entertainment and Sports Arena in DC this weekend. Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased here.

Sunday, October 21

– Have you always wanted to be a beer connoisseur? High Side Beer School in Fairfax, Virginia can help you reach that goal. In a 45 minute class, you will learn about various beer styles, flavor profiles, and brewing techniques. The cost for the class is $10 and includes a 4 taster flight. The class begins at 2 p.m.

– Georgetown is home to some of the most interesting architectural structures. Highly expensive and desirable property resides in the neighborhood, including luxurious mansions, elegant cemeteries, beautiful churches, and a world-class university. DC Design Tours will guide you through Georgetown’s amazing architectural history. Tickets are $25 and the tour begins at 10 a.m.

– DC Casineros is a Cuban Dancing Performance Group that hosts Cuban Salsa nights at SongBird in Admo every month called “Agua Nights” (Veterans and newbies all welcome-it’s super fun). This Sunday, they’re partnering with regionally known artists for a one-time event, including a performance and dance party. Head to Union Stage to get out of your comfort zone, learn about a new culture and get your salsa on at the same time!

Monday, October 22

– Oyamel Cocina is hosting a “Dia de Los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) Festival Kick-Off party at 6 p.m. There will be delicious food, creative cocktails to die for, live music, face painting, and a photo booth. Tickets for the party are $49.

– Zachys D.C. is hosting their 2nd Annual Wine Extravaganza from 5 to 8 p.m. More than 90 wines from around the world will be available at the event. From tastings, to rare collectibles, to library vintages, this extravaganza will be one to remember!

Tuesday, October 23

– If you’re not familiar with Georgetown’s eerie history, get to know it on a ghost tour. As you walk along historic streets, Victorian row houses, and beautiful gardens, you will learn about the dark secrets, ghosts, and spirits that still hang around the nation’s capital today. Tickets are $10, and the tour begins at 8 p.m.
