Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 8/8 – 8/14

We hope you’re ready for a fun week just as much as we are.

It’s the second week of August, and there is still plenty of summer left to soak up. You might as well make the most of this beautiful weather by doing fun things!

If you love watching movies, free food, sipping wine and doing yoga, or rooftop parties, then you’ll love the weekly wins we have for you this week.

Wednesday, August 8

– Join Mayor Bowser and EventsDC for dinner and a movie at the Amphitheater at Oxon Run Park. If you’re a fan of superheroes, then you’re in luck. The movie being shown is “Justice League.” Don’t forget to bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks. The movie will start at dusk, and there will be music and free food!

Thursday, August 9

– Who doesn’t love pizza and cider? Head to Supreme Core Cidery for $10 pizza and pours 5 to 8 p.m. New selections from local beverage partners will be featured, and Al Volo Cucina’s delicious pizza will be served. This event will be going on every Thursday at different wineries and breweries throughout the district. Don’t miss out!

– If you have an interest in photography, the DC Public Library will host a free night photography class 7 p.m. Thursday night at the Petworth Neighborhood Library. You will learn how to take pictures in low light, and how to best take photos in night scenes using a digital camera or phone. Just drop by the day to sign up!

– We know you made a mannequin challenge video to Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” and, who doesn’t know Wiz Khalifa? Both artists will be performing together at 6 p.m. Thursday night at Jiffy Lube Live.

Friday, August 10

– Life is better when you’re laughing. If you’re in need of a good laugh this weekend, purchase tickets to an Underground Comedy show at The Big Hunt. (Tickets are $20.) Make sure to get there on time because seating is first come, first served. The doors open 20 minutes prior to showtime, and you must be 21 to enter.

– Indulge in a Friday Night Beer and Bites tour at the Bluejacket. Tour participants will enjoy a signature draft upon arrival, which will be followed by a full brewery tour including three tasters. Once the tour ends, you’ll once more be given three tasters that are each paired with a delicious snack made by the Bluejacket’s culinary team and Chef de Cuisine Marcelle Afram. Tickets are $35 each.

Saturday, August 11

– Hop on a 90-minute cruise featuring a full bar, drink specials, awesome music, and amazing views of the water and Washington D.C. The cruise departs at 6 p.m. and tickets are $40. The boat will leave from National Ferry at Washington Marina. Arrive 15 minutes prior to departure to check-in and board the boat. Know that there is no parking at the location. – Two different, but very artists will be in the D.C. area Saturday night. At 7:30 p.m., Shakira will be at the Capital One Arena to show you her hips really don’t lie, and country music star Keith Urban will put on a show a 7:30 show at Jiffy Lube Live, also.

– If you just saw “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” and are a fan of many of the songs in the movie, then you can’t miss this concert. The closest you will ever get to seeing ABBA perform their famous song, “Mamma Mia” is seeing ABBA The Concert. The show is at 8 p.m. at Wolf Trap Farm.

– A three-hour summer yacht party sounds like the perfect way to wrap up the weekend. Set sail on the Potomac River and show off your best dance moves at Shots on Deck: The Summer Yacht Party! There will be awesome music and discounted drinks. Tickets are $25 a person, and $40 for two people.

– Start your week off by supporting local breweries, musicians, and restaurants. The Ivy City Smokehouse and Atlas Brewing are teaming up Monday night to host The Last Real Circus Show. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m. The event is free, but make sure to register online prior to its start.

Tuesday, August 14
