Get Your International Eats on at DC’s Most Delicious Ethnic Food Trucks

According to EscapeHere, Washington D.C. is the fourth best food truck city in America, and for good reason.

The District has more than 150 food trucks that set up shop for customers every day. There are incredible American options from luxurious grilled cheeses, to fresh Maine lobster, to savory Chicago-style hotdogs and an Italian-American classic, pizza.

But, the D.C. food truck scene is so diverse, and we’re lucky there are many amazing ethnic food trucks that serve up food native to different locations all over the world.

Here are four of our favorite ethnic food trucks you can find parked around D.C. We apologize in advance if you find your stomach growling after reading this article!

1. Dhabalicious

Dhabalicious is an unorthodox food truck that serves delicious, smoked Indian barbeque. To order your meal, choose a base (Salad, grain, or pasta bowl). Then, add protein like smoked chicken, pork, lamb, etc. Next, pick your sauce. You have the choice between different sauces including BBQ, chutney, or curry masalas. Finally, add pickled vegetables, kachumber, or cole slaw to finish the meal off. You can also build your own taco for $5, and for a side, try the Masala Mac and Cheese. You can find the truck in various locations depending on its daily schedule, but is commonly found on Edgewood St NE or at local breweries (Twinpanzee Brewing Co, Beltway Brewing Company)

#FrayLifeTip: Dhabalicious also caters, so if you want to host a flavorful family gathering or office party, hit them up!

2. Pepe

Not only does Chef Jose Andres have to dominate the D.C. restaurant business, but the food truck business as well. Pepe just opened about a year ago, and their menu consists of mostly sandwiches like the Pollo Frito and the Jamon Serrano y Queso Manchego, in addition to patatas bravas chips, salads, and soft-serve. If you’re really hungry, order chicken croquettes or gazpacho with your sandwich.

DC Ballers is known for their incredible falafel, hummus, and Greek fries. Their menu is reasonably priced, as you can order a falafel platter which includes falafel balls with hummus garlic sauce, Israeli salad, tabouli, and pita bread for $9.50. How can you beat that?

#FrayLifeTip: DC Ballers menu is gluten-free and vegetarian, and made with fresh ingredients.

4. Abunai

If you’ve ever traveled to Hawaii and indulged in Hawaiian cuisine, then say Aloha to Abunai, a food truck that serves authentic Hawaiian food. Similar to other food truck’s ordering style, you pick your entree (mochiko chicken, Kalua pig and cabbage, tofu poke, or spam katsu musubi), then your base (steamed rice, mixed greens, or fried rice), and two sides (Furikake macaroni salad, mixed green salad, lomi tomatoes and onions, carrot and cucumber namasu, or steamed rice). Fair warning, if you try Abunai once, you’ll find yourself craving it time and time again. It’s that good!

#FrayLifeTip: If you’re pressed for time, you can order Abunai online. Abunai changes their location for each day of the week monthly, so keep up with them on Facebook or Twitter to make sure you’re in the know of their whereabouts!

The next time you’re on lunch break or strolling through D.C., stop at one of these five food trucks! Make sure to snap a picture and tag us using #FrayLife on social media.
