Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 9/5 – 9/11

 

 

We hope you had a blast with our weekly wins from last week! Now that LDW is out of the way, we’re back with a lot more that will keep your ears happy and your tummy full as we roll into fall.

If you need some time to “wine” down, then you won’t want to miss what’s going on Wednesday or Friday night. The best price is free, especially when it comes to food, so be sure to check out Thursday, too.

Also, don’t miss out on treating your sweet tooth at a gelato festival. Yes, you read that right, a gelato festival.

Plus, Dierks Bentley, local musicians, and pianists taking the stage around DC for an awesome week of live music.

Wednesday, September 5

– Do you consider yourself a wine connoisseur? If so, you need to attend “7 Shades of Pink” at the 1310 Kitchen & Bar. Chefs Jenn Crovato and Sommelier Michelle Gueydan will host an exploration of various drinks with a pinkish color such as cider, sake, rose, and more. Each drink is paired with tapas sized plates. Tickets are $65 and the dinner begins at 7 p.m.

Thursday, September 6

– Who doesn’t love free food? Leon on L Street will allow guests to come in for breakfast or lunch to try out some of their meals before they open to the public. The only thing they ask for from you is honest feedback! Stop by anytime for breakfast from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., and for lunch, 12 – 1:30 p.m. You can RSVP here.

– Come out to Open Mic Night at Songbyrd Record Cafe and Music House to hear musicians, poets, comedians, and good entertainment. This is the newest open mic in town! Entry is free, but you can RSVP here. The event begins at 7 p.m.

Friday, September 7

– Country music fans should be excited as Dierks Bentley will bring his Mountain High Tour to Jiffy Lube Live at 7 p.m. Special guests Brothers Osborne and Lanco will also perform. General admission lawn tickets are currently $35.

– Friday night is wine time. Enjoy an unlimited sampling of more than 50 wines at “Drink the District: Wine Edition,” while listening to live music and spending time with good people. Specialty cheese and charcuterie packages will be available. You will also learn how to sip and cook like a pro from La Maison Francaise executive chef. The event begins at 6 p.m. and tickets are $59.

Tickets for the dueling piano show at Bobby McKey’s Friday night are only $8.50! No matter who you want to hear, Beyonce, Beethoven, Fleetwood Mac, or Mozart, these talented pianists can play it all. Even the wait staff sometimes joins in on the show with a choreographed dance, so this is entertainment you don’t want to miss! Specialty drinks, beers on tap, sandwiches, and snacks will be served during the show.

Saturday, September 8

– We will all scream for ice cream (well, gelato) at this year’s Gelato Festival at the City Market at O Street. During the festival, gelato chefs will fight for a chance to compete at the 2021 grand finals in Italy. At this event, you will experience the culture of Artisan Italian Gelato, learn production techniques, and get to taste all of the competing gelatos. The event begins at 12 p.m., and tickets are $30.

– The brightest bar crawl will go down in The District from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. “Bright-N-Pint” is the country’s biggest neon themed bar crawl. Put on your brightest colored outfit and prepare yourself for a day loaded with neon drinking and bar hopping. With your ticket purchase, you will receive a signature mug, glow necklace, drink specials, raffle entry for amazing prizes, and free pictures from the event. Prices for best costume will also be given out. Tickets are $20.

Sunday, September 9  

– Creative minds will gather at the La Vie Penthouse at 2 p.m. for the DC Creative Festival. This event is a great opportunity to collaborate and meet new people that are similar minded. The event will have music, drinks, live art, a creative showcase, and a raffle which includes gift cards for La Vie, Provision, Bar Bao, and Wilson Hardware. Register for this event here.

– The 13th Annual Nation’s Escape Triathlon will take place on Sunday. The triathlon includes a 1.5k swim in the Potomac River, a 40k bike course through DC, and a 10k run through The District’s most historical landmarks. This is the only triathlon that lets you compete through historic downtown Washington. Make sure to secure your spot, registration closes Friday!

– Spend your Sunday afternoon tasting olive oil and wine at Brasserie Beck. You’ll learn the proper olive oil testing techniques, discover the different characteristics of cultivars, find out where in Italy the olive oil comes from, and the type of olive oil that is produced. Following the tasting, a five-course lunch will be served, and the oils will be utilized in every course. A wine will be paired with each course. Tickets are $75, and the tasting begins at 12 p.m.

Monday, September 10  

– Dabble on the dark side with the “Tragic Tales of Georgetown: Walking Tour Unearths Scary Stories.” Georgetown is the oldest neighborhood in DC, and with old age comes many local legends, ghost stories, and factual crime events from years ago. On this tour, you will learn how Georgetown is haunted by its past. Tickets are $10. 

Tuesday, September 11

– Veterans for American Ideals, Service Year Alliance, and Armed Services Arts Partnership will put on a special storytelling performance called, “Service to Stage” to commemorate 9/11 National Day of Service. Actress Melissa Fitzgerald from The West Wing will emcee. The show will feature seven different performers including, three veterans, two service year alumni, and two wartime allies. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. at DC Improv. Drinks can be purchased, but not food. Tickets are $15.

– If normal 5k runs are boring to you, we promise the Tug-O-Run will have you intrigued. The run is a 5k competition where two teams have to run the same course in opposite directions. The event will be put on by Vienna Run Club at 6:30 p.m. Participants will be randomly split into two teams and must run the same 3-mile course. Following the run, head to Taco Bamba or MOD Pizza for social hour. Participants will receive one complimentary drink! RSVP here.
