Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 11/14 – 11/20
Thanksgiving is only one week away, and we’re sure you’re preparing your stomachs for the ultimate feast next Thursday.
If you need the perfect dessert or side dish to bring to your family’s Thanksgiving gathering, you’ll want to make sure you check out our Tuesday wins that include a pop-up bakery.
If you need to burn some calories before you stuff yourself full of turkey, cranberries, and sweet potatoes, we suggest you take a field trip to Great Falls Park, learn some new moves at a Dance N’ Drip class, or run a 5k at the National Arboretum!

Wednesday, November 14
– Enjoy a night of drinking and painting at “November Watercolor and Cocktails.” You will receive a specialty seasonal cocktail made by Buffalo and Bergen and use watercolors to paint an illustrated recipe of mixologist Gina Chersevani. Not only will you learn watercolor techniques, but you will learn how to create the exact drink you are painting. This event will begin at 6:30 p.m., at Union Market. Tickets are $50.
– Watch the Washington Wizards take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at home. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. This is the first time the Wizards will face the Cavaliers without Lebron James. The cheapest tickets are just $6 right now, get them while you can!
Thursday, November 15
– Experience the purely angelic voice of Josh Groban at the Capital One Arena Thursday night. Idina Menzel will perform an opening set before Groban takes the stage. The show begins at 8 p.m., and the lowest priced tickets are going for $77.
– This happy hour is just for the ladies. BEHOLD.HER will host a happy hour gathering at Union Drinkery from 7 to 9 p.m. There are only two rules for this event. No rules, and no discussion about work. Three for $9 tacos will be available, AND it comes with a beer! Donations to BEHOLD.HER’s initiative are welcome.
– With the weather changing, dry skin almost seems unavoidable. Join Ivy Wild and Umar Khan at 6 p.m., to find out how to keep your skin hydrated and smooth during the cold! While you sip, sample, and shop, Ivy Wild will give you the skincare routine you need, and recommendations on products suitable for the season.
Friday, November 16
– Get in a FREE workout (or two or three) at Balance Gym! All you have to do is sport your favorite DC Fray t-shirt. Whether you want to get your cardio in on the treadmill or participate in a group fitness class, you can…for free…for the entire month of November!
– From 7 – 9 p.m, the Heurich House Museum will unveil an exhibit called HOME/BREWED. The exhibit will feature bottles, cans, signs, and branded objects from the Heurich Brewing Company and show its place in DC history. Festive beverages will be available for purchase including German beer and wine, and themed snacks. Admission is free!
– Ladies, get your sweat on at Dance N Drip: Washington DC. You will move to the rhythms of Dancehall and Soca music and express yourself through movement. It’s a fun way to exercise and get to know other people in a judgmental free environment! The class is from 7:30 – 9 p.m., at Joe’s Movement Emporium, and tickets are $24.10.
Saturday, November 17
– It’s finally time! Join us for the first ever DC Wine Walk where you can stroll from bar to bar and sample various wines. You will get a guide to the participating bars, as well as a Tossware wine glass! Get more information on location details and how to sign up here.
– Adults need a field trip too sometimes! Join Competitive by Nature as they take participants on their first ever “Field Trip.” You will meet in Anacostia Park at 10:15 a.m. and travel in a bus to Great Falls Park. At the park, you will enjoy delicious food from a top caterer in DC. After the meal, participants will go on a two-hour hike and experience the magnificent views of the park. The $25 ticket includes transportation and admission into the park, but not food.
– Start your Saturday morning on the right foot at the 5k Arboretum Fun Run. The paved 5k path will take you through DC’s beautiful forests and fields where you will see beautiful fall foliage. The run begins at 8 a.m. Tickets are $40 and include a T-shirt. Water and light refreshments will be provided on site.
– It’s never too cold to be on a river when alcohol is involved! The annual Oktoberfest River Cruise and Fall Fest River Cruise will hit the water at 5:30 p.m. While on board in your warmest flannels and scarves, enjoy cider, pumpkin beer, wine, or a fall cocktail. The cruise is 90 minutes long. Snacks are available for purchase in addition to beverages. Tickets are $40.
Sunday, November 18
– The Watergate Hotel’s Halloween Truffle Class was such a hit that they are offering a Fall Chocolate Truffle class from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Participants will learn from SPAGnVOLA how to craft the most delicate, but delicious truffles made from the finest cacao. You will also get to take home a box of decorated fall truffles. Tickets are $60.
– The second annual Bull and Oyster Roast will be held in Northside 10’s parking lot from 1 to 5 p.m. While the event is free and open to everyone, oyster table tickets need to be purchased separately. With your $25 ticket, you can enjoy all you can eat steamed and raw oysters. Hush puppies, steamed shrimp, and Baltimore Pit Beef sandwiches will also be served. While you eat, enjoy live music, beer tents and NFL games on outdoor screens!
Monday, November 19
– Green Drinks DC will host a special happy hour from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shop Made in DC. Shop Made in DC highlights talented artists, musicians, chefs, and other creative individuals in The District. At the happy hour event, sip on some yummy beverages while meeting new people and learning about local products.
– After work, head to Highline RxR for Rodef 2100: Trivia in Crystal City. Trivia begins at 7 p.m., but if you want an early start to your night, happy hour begins at 3 p.m. Rodef 2100 is a group specifically for young professionals in their 20s and 30s. It’s a great way to network with other people. Register as an attendee here.
Tuesday, November 20
– Do you think you and your group of friends know Ross, Phoebe, Joey, Monica, Chandler, and Rachel better than anyone else? Come find out at Pinstripes Georgetown from 7 to 9 p.m. by participating in a “Friends” Thanksgiving episodes-themed trivia! Reserve tickets for you and your friends here.
– Taste the flavors of fall, prepared by Chef Madison Han, at a neighborhood dinner party from 7 to 10 p.m. The dinner will be held at Commissary DC and will feature a four-course tasting menu that includes fall truffles and vegetables from the EatWell Natural Farm. A selection of local Virginia wines will be paired with each course. Tickets are $45.
– DC is no stranger to pop-up bars. This is not that, but something a little bit on the sweeter side. Pastry Chef Alex Levin will launch his 4th Annual Thanksgiving-themed Pop-Up Bakery in DC from 12 to 4 p.m. He will make handmade pies, specialty desserts, artisanal candies, breads, and side dishes. Those at your family gathering will be quite impressed and satisfied when you bring one of Levin’s creations to the party. You can have items delivered, or pick them up from Alta Strada DC or Alta Strada Mosaic.
