Find it difficult to keep up with your fitness routine while you’re on vacation? Why not turn your fitness routine into your vacation!
#FrayLife this month is all about content that helps you escape DC this summer, and vacation races are a fun way to get out of town while spicing up how you get your sweat on.
Here’s a look at a few upcoming races around the mid-Atlantic that are worth the trip. If you see one you like, plan a weekend getaway and it out (if you do, make sure to tag us with #FrayLife in your social posts)!
Want to see the beach in a different way? Take a weekend trip down to Virginia Beach for their Rock ’n’ Roll Races! This fall, September 1st and 2nd, you can choose from a variety of distances – Mile on the Sand, 5k, and Half Marathon. The feeling of your feet in the sand will take on a whole new meaning after you’ve finished your race! Stop by Waterman’s Surfside Grille for some post-race fuel right on the boardwalk.
#FrayLife Tip: Leave the headphones at home for this race! With tons of on-course music you’ll be fully entertained!
Plan a vacation to Raleigh, North Carolina just in time for their Race 13.1 on October 6th! Not quite down for an entire 13.1 miles while on vacation? Not to worry – there are also 10k and 5k distances! Spend the rest of your vacation checking out a Carolina Hurricanes game or head to North Hills to do some shopping. Enjoyed this trip? Head to Durham, NC in December for another Race 13.1 experience!
#FrayLife Tip: Celebrate your successful vacation race with a couple brews on the Raleigh Beer Trail!
Take a trip to Harrisburg, PA to experience this race, which is part of the YMCA Race Series. On September 9th try your hand at the Harrisburg Half Marathon or the 3 Bridges 5k. Check out the views of Harrisburg and the Susquehanna River as you run. This course allows 5k runners to start with the Half Marathon runners, so be sure to bring all your friends, regardless of their race distance!
#FrayLife Tip: Spend some more of your vacation checking out Midtown Scholar, a bookstore, cafe and performance space!
Looking to take part in a “world-renowned” race? Then the Boilermaker Road Race in Utica, NY is for you! This event is not just one day, but a week long spectacular, featuring multiple race distances, events, an expo, and more. On July 8th take part in the 15k and run alongside the thousands who take part in this famous race. Is singing more your speed than racing? Audition for the National Anthem Contest for your chance to sing on the big day!
#FrayLife Tip: Join other runners and card load at the Sodexo Pasta Buffet for just $7 the day before the race.
Experience some exciting art and culture by escaping to Asheville, North Carolina for a fun vacation. Plan your trip for around June 9th and take part in the Asheville Marathon and 10k. Run through the city and along the French Broad River – a great way to see the sights at a quick pace! Pamper yourself afterwards by staying at Biltmore, tasting some wine, and listening to music. Want to keep the vacation active? Asheville has some great hiking opportunities as well!
#FrayLife Tip: After the race, stay downtown and walk the Asheville Urban Trail to see some of the cultural and architectural history of the city!
