Forget about “winter is coming” because patio weather is coming.
Let’s spring forward, put that whole cold weather thing behind us, and take part in the timeless tradition of brunching outside.
We recently covered 6 go-to brunch patio spots, but while we’re taking part in this customary marathon of eating, people watching, and boozy beverage drinking, why not include man’s best friend?
Here are 5 of our favorite places around the DMV where you can you can share the joys of brunch with your dog.
1. Art and Soul
This Capitol Hill restaurant features award-winning southern cuisine and has a “Pooch Patio Menu” just for your furry friend. Spoil them with beef and rice in a savory gravy, grilled sirloin, peanut-banana pupsicles, or a frozen beef bone. If you want to be really extra, they even have “Bowser Beer,” a non-alcoholic brew for dogs. Given that Art Smith is the owner, the human food is pretty amazing too.
#FrayLife Tip: Art and Soul is known for hosting Hangover Brunches to help you survive the day after major drinking holidays.
This uber dog-friendly brewery in Vienna welcomes you and your pup on their outdoor patio to enjoy a genuine farm-to-table brunch. There are several selections of house-brewed beer in addition to brunch cocktails. Hike or bike there–they’re located right off the Washington & Old Dominion Trail.
This farm-to-table brunch spot in Shirlington is incredibly dog friendly. Puppers get treated to the tavern’s house-made dog treats and lap water out of custom copper dog bowls on the patio. You’ll get treated a menu full of brunch favorites, and eclectic cocktails to wash it all down.
#FrayLife Tip: Visit them online to enter your pup in their running “Dog of the Month” contest.
Fur-friends are allowed here when their patio is open. Request their dog menu (salmon and rice or chicken and rice, plus dessert of doggie ice cream froyo). Virtue is on a less busy street of Alexandria so it’s ideal for pups who may be spooked or easily distracted by traffic. It also took home OpenTable’s Diner’s Choice in 2017 and Wedding Wire’s Couple’s Choice Award in 2018, so you know you and your friends will enjoy it as much as your pets.
Right Proper is so dog-friendly, even the bathroom art reflects is. The spacious patio at Right Proper is right next to the historic Howard Theater in Shaw and is the perfect spot for your next boozy brunch. Don’t have a dog to bring? No problem. The Humane Rescue Alliance hosts adoption events here sometimes. You just might leave brunch with a furry new roommate.
#FrayLife Tip: If you’re planning a trip to Right Proper, plan to spend the whole day in Shaw. Check out our Shaw Neighborhood Guide for can’t miss things to do.
