DC’s Hottest Pop-Up Bar is in Full Bloom

Despite the random snowflakes, springtime is around the corner.

We think.

If you’re like us, you’re eagerly waiting around for warmer weather, but that isn’t stopping us from getting a head start on enjoying the spring season, and it shouldn’t stop you either.

Last year, the Drink Company’s Game of Thrones Pop-Up took DC (and Instagram) by storm. This spring, they’re back in Shaw with another highly Instagrammable hotspot that pays homage to one of the most-DC-things there is- the Cherry Blossom Pop-Up Bar.

Back for its second year, the Cherry Blossom PUB took nearly 2 months to design and build. Given that there are 90,000 cherry blossoms throughout the entire space, it does not disappoint.

The first bar you come to mimics the historic Memory Lane in Tokyo and every 13 minutes Godzilla gets a little rowdy and blows smoke (get your phone ready).

Further inside, if you look closely enough, you’ll see 1300 butterflies slightly moving on the ceiling. Bar designer, Adriana Salame-Aspiazu, created this aspect to symbolize the notion that “we should all slow down and enjoy life.”

As stunning as it is, the Cherry Blossom PUB is more than a spot to snap FOMO-inducing selfies, and the drink menu is as picturesque as the space and the trees themselves.

The most eye-catching drink on the menu is the Beana Colada, served in a Maneki Neko (Japanese lucky cat) mini statue.

Staying on the sweet side, the Calpico Fizz is another option you’ll want to try.

If drier drinks are more your speed, we suggest starting your evening with Love Crazed Monster Crushes World.

When it comes to food, the options are, purposely, limited. Owner, Derek Brown, wants his whole neighborhood to benefit from his popup and is only offering select snacks in order to encourage guests to explore Shaw’s eclectic dining options.

#FrayLife Tip: The snack menu is narrow, but if you’re into food with a kick, the Tempura Seaweed Chips that remind of pork rinds are a must-try. Yes, you read that correctly.

Per the National Park Service, cherry blossoms are set to peak early this year….again. Expect bar patrons to bloom as well, especially around the beginning of the National Cherry Blossom Festival (which starts 3/17).

Similar to the actual cherry blossoms in the DC, you only have a couple of weeks to seize the moment and experience the Cherry Blossom PUB. It’s only open until April 29th, so take advantage of their extended hours.

They are open from 5pm-12:30am Monday-Thursday and until 1:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays.

#FrayLife Tip: Monday-Wednesday are the ideal days to head over if you want to avoid larger crowds and a line to get in (which can take as long as 30 mins).

Head over to Shaw and check it out before you miss your chance. AND be on the lookout for the next Drink Company pop-up, which owners, Derek and Adriana, hinted could appear sooner than later.
