Rec Leagues - Basketball Rules

Basketball

Each team has a 5 minute grace period after its scheduled game time to field a

minimum of 4 players. Otherwise, the opposing team's captain may either decide

to play, permit borrowed players or to take win by forfeit. Game clock will begin

running during grace period.

Game clock will start immediately before tip-off and will run non-stop for 20 minutes/half with one

2 minute intermission. Regular season ties will result in consecutive 2 minute overtime periods.

Each team is permitted one 1 minute time-out per half.

Final standings will be based on team record with top team per conference qualifying for

championship game, following playoff semi-finals.

Should any two teams have same record, following tie-breaking system will be employed: 1.

Record in head-to- head competition; 2. Points differential for season; 3. Coin toss.

Player trades must be approved by all players involved, by captains for both teams and by league

commissioner. Extra players may also be added to team roster during season. All such roster

moves must be completed by game 4.

Following tip-off, offensive players must move toward front court basket by passing or dribbling.

Shots must be taken within thirty seconds, and any offensive player holding or dribbling ball for

over five seconds in front court will result in possession by defensive team. Double-dribbles will

result in change of possession. Free throws=1pt. Baskets shot from in front of three point

zone=2pts. Baskets shot from behind three point zone=3pts.

Important: This a non-contact adult recreational league, and each player is expected to be

in control of body and temper at all times, otherwise fouls will be strictly assessed,

regardless of intent.

Following a technical foul, opposing team will receive two free throws and possession. Any player

hanging on rim will be issued a technical foul. Any player receiving five (5) personal fouls will be

ejected from game. Any player receiving two (2) technical fouls will be ejected from game. Any

team receiving three (3) technical fouls for unsportsmanlike conduct will forfeit game. Any team

receiving seven (7) fouls will be “in the penalty”, creating a one and one situation for the opposing

team. Team fouls will reset after the first half. And after ten (10) team fouls, the “double bonus”

will be in effect.

Unsportsmanlike conduct, including but not limited to slamming ball, taunting, and profanity

toward teammates, opponents, spectators or referees will result in technical foul and warning by

referee. If player’s action persists or is repeated during game, game ejection will occur. Failure to

vacate building will result in one game suspension and team forfeit. Two such game ejections

and/or suspensions during season will result in league ejection for offending player with forfeiture

of all league fees.

Arguing with the referee or challenging calls by any player who is not the appointed team captain

will result in unsportsmanlike conduct. Failure to vacate building will result in one game

suspension and team forfeit. Two such game ejections and/or suspensions during season will

result in league ejection for offending player with forfeiture of all league fees. If the appointed

team captain challenges/argues with the referee”s final decision, same unsportsmanlike conduct

rules will apply.

Fighting will result in either: game ejection for all players involved and continuation of game,

termination of game with current score recorded as final, or termination of game with instigator's

team losing by forfeit, all at referee’s discretion. Furthermore, league commissioner reserves right

to permanently eject such players from league with forfeiture of all league fees.
