Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 10/24 – 10/30

 

 

The weather is cooler, the leaves are turning, and Halloween time is officially here.

Halloween is on a Wednesday this year, which means a lot of the biggest holiday events in DC are THIS WEEKEND.

We’re super excited because DC has so many Halloween themed wins for you this week including parties, baking classes, a bar crawl, and yoga classes. We hope you’ve got your costume ready, and are preparing yourself for a freaky good time!

Wednesday, October 24

– Eating, drinking, and listening to music for a good cause sounds like a fun way to spend your Wednesday night, does it not? WashREIT will host a BBQ, Bluegrass, Bourbon and Brews tasting event from 6 to 10 p.m. at Arlington Tower Rooftop. Tickets are $50 and the proceeds from the event will benefit Make Kids Smile, a non-profit organization that provides playground and recreational equipment to underprivileged children in the DC area.

– Come shop at the Pop-Up Shop Block Party from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cherry Blossom Creative. The event will be put on by DC Design Week. There will be a pop-up ice cream bar, beer, and art for sale. Take advantage of this fun shopping event!

Thursday, October 25

– Halloween is next week, and if you’re one of those people who loves making DIY costumes, we’ve got the perfect event for you. At Sip and Sew Old Town, you will have the chance to use the Fabric Place Basement sewing machines, brand-new serger, and supplies. You bring your own fabric and supplies, and the sips (alcohol or non-alcohol) will be provided! The open sew begins at 4 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Friday, October 26

– Prepare to be spooked at Night of the Living Zoo. This is an adults-only Halloween party that will feature terrifying acts, ghouls and goblins, a costume contest, live musical performances, and of course, craft beer and delicious food from popular D.C. food trucks. Tickets are $40, and the event begins at 6:30 p.m.

– Grab a friend and a costume, and have a hauntingly good time at Newseum Frights! There will be a “Boo-zy” open beer and wine bar, in addition to “fang-tastic” food from Wolfgang Puck including pepperoni pizza bombs, fried cheesy ravioli, sriracha mac n’ cheese, and a trick or treat candy bar. And not to mention, a silent disco powered by us, a costume contest, giveaways, makeovers, and much more that will all go on throughout the night! The party begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $60.

– Spooky Glow and Flow is the perfect Halloween twist to a yoga class. The class will take place at the Old Lorton Prison and begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and the cost includes the yoga class and glowing accessories. Don’t forget to bring a yoga mat!

Saturday, October 27

– Another weekend, another bar crawl. The DC Halloween Crawl is this Saturday night at 8 p.m. The crawl includes a souvenir haunted mug, free cover to all of the bars part of the crawl, food and drink specials like $2 beers, $3 rail drinks, $4 haunted shots, and free raffles and pictures. There will also be a costume contest, so we hope you’re ready to kill the costume game! Some of the participating bars include The Madhatter, Sign of the Whale, The Bottom Line, and more! Tickets are $35.

– This is the weekend of Halloween parties. Pick out your scariest costume and head to Top of the Gate at The Watergate Hotel for the ultimate Halloween party. If you wear a costume, you will be rewarded with a free glass of bubbly. Tickets are $20.

– One of our favorite parties goes down with our friends at Grand Central. If you want open bar and the chance to score $100 for having the best costume, Grand Central’s Halloween Bash is a must.

– Decorating cookies is just another fun way to celebrate Halloween. This cookie decorating class taught by Mayra Garcia will teach you how to make your own icing and decorate cookies with pumpkins, mummies, spider webs and other spooky Halloween characters. You will get to take the cookies you design home! The workshop is from 1 to 3 p.m. at Fran’s Cake and Candy Supplies. Tickets are $85.

– Prefer to spend your holiday hanging around a bonfire and drinking unlimited beer and wine? Meet us and other FrayLifers at Butler’s Orchard for a spooky evening filled with music, games, and s’mores over a festive bonfire. You can cook your own hotdog over the fire and take advantage of all you can drink beer & wine. The party starts at 8pm and pizes will be given for the best costume!

Sunday, October 28

– Nothing like a Sunday BBQ! Jack Daniel’s Honey and The Midnite BBQ will host a BBQ event all day long Sunday, from 2 p.m. to midnight. Delicious barbeque and craft cocktails will be served. There will also be music from a DJ. First 200 attendees will receive a complimentary cocktail! Tickets are $10 and the event will be at Big Chief.

– Halloween truffles…mmm. Learn how to make your own on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. DC chocolatier SPAGnVOLA will offer their chocolate truffle making class at The Watergate Hotel. The class will give you the skills you need just in time for Halloween! You get to take home the truffles that you make. Tickets are $60.

Monday, October 29

– Create your own Halloween floral design at Helen Olivia Flowers in Old Town, Alexandria from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. All supplies will be provided. Tickets are $95.

– Head to Penn Social at 7 p.m. for a night of literary horror. The PEN/Faulkner Foundation will read work and talk about horror fiction and the horrors people encounter every day. Bestselling and award-winning author, Elizabeth Hand will lead the event. Tickets are $15.

Tuesday, October 30

– Get down, get funky, get spooky with hip-hop yoga. From 7 to 9 p.m. at Crystal City Sports Pub, you’ll get to listen to the best hip hop tunes of the season, spun by DJ Thunder Bunny while getting your flow on. Feel free to wear a costume! Halloween cocktails will be served after the yoga class. Tickets are $25 and include yoga and a complimentary drink.
