Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 8/22 – 8/28

 

 

Even though summer is coming to an end, there is still plenty of time to enjoy summer activities.

Outdoor movies, day parties, yoga, and hiking are just some of the wins we have lined up for you this week. We want you to have a winning week, and any of these events will definitely help you achieve that goal.

Why not soak up every last drop of summer left in the most fun way possible?

Wednesday, August 22

If you’re a soccer fan and specifically a Messi fan, then you won’t want to miss Madame Tussauds debut Wednesday of Lionel Messi’s figure. The Messi figure will only be there for a limited time, so be sure to check it out while you have the chance. Purchase tickets here.

– Everyone deserves a drink after a long hard day at work. Head to City Tap House in Penn Quarter on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for “Network After Work Washington DC.” It’s a great opportunity to network with other business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals. There will be complimentary appetizers from 6 p.m.. to 7 p.m. and drink specials from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door. You can purchase a ticket online here.

Thursday, August 23

The Library of Congress will show “Back to the Future” on the North Lawn at 8:30 p.m as part of their “Summer Movies on the Lawn” series. The event is free, and you can register in advance here.

– Who could pass up a cruise on the Potomac to benefit some pups? The K9 Cruise for Veterans will take place Thursday at 6:30 p.m., benefitting Semper K9 Assistance Dogs. The cruise is two hours long and includes heavy hors-d’oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages, beer, and wine. Tickets are $40 a person, and if you have a well-mannered pup, you can bring him along too!

Friday, August 24

– Travel back in time 50 years at Daybreaker DC and kick off your workday the right way. All activities at this event will have groovy 1960’s vibes. Yoga is from 6 to 7 a.m., followed by a dance party from 7 to 9 a.m. There will be free breakfast snacks, cold brew, live performances, and fun surprises. Tickets are $35 and the event will be held at Flash.

– Wine and slow jams sound like a nice way to spend a Friday night to us. XO Restaurant and Lounge will help you unwind after a long week with this event. There will be drink specials, including $5 rum punch all night. Entry to the event is free, and you can register here.

Saturday, August 25

A guided walking tour to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream Speech” will take place at 9 a.m. On the tour, you will learn about and the life and legacy King left behind. You will see exactly where King’s famous speech was delivered, the Lincoln Memorial, visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and listen to a taped recording of the speech. The event is free, and you can register online here.

– Blame it on brunch. An excuse we all deserve to use at least once, maybe twice. Head to RedRocks H Street at 12 p.m. for an awesome end of summer brunch party. Brunch will be served from 12 to 4 p.m. and the day party is 4 to 6 p.m. There will be $20 bottomless mimosas, chicken and waffles, chorizo sandwich, brandy-spiked french toast, and more yummy brunch food! RSVP to the event here.

– If you’re a country music fan, Brad Paisley will bring his Brad Paisley Tour to Jiffy Lube Live at 7:30 p.m. Kane Brown and Tyminski will open for Paisley. General admission lawn tickets are $35.

Sunday, August 26

Spend your Sunday at The Park at 14th enjoying brunch! There will be a brunch buffet, and complimentary entry after 4 p.m. The event is from 1 to 9 p.m. An Early bird ticket includes a brunch buffet and unlimited mimosas at $38.

– A different, but fun yoga experience will be held at the National Building Museum at 10 a.m. In collaboration with Snarkitecture, the museum will put on this event which includes a fun house. Inside the funhouse, you’ll find interactive rooms, and popular Snarkitecture environments and items guests can interact with. The house will also have fun activities in the front and backyard. Tickets are $20 and includes yoga and a pass to the museum.

Monday, August 27

Are you a nature lover, or do you need to just relax and start your week calm? Immerse yourself in a one of a kind experience – full moon bathing. Forest bathing is taking in the forest, or the woods using your senses. Forest bathing can boost your immunity, lower your blood pressure and heart rate. Certified nature and forest therapy guide Claire Kelley will lead the experience. Tickets are $35 and the event will be held at The National Arboretum.

– Enjoy a DC evening and get your exercise in with a full moon hike through moonlit gardens, meadows, and woods. The hike will include selected points of interest and seasonal highlights from your guide. The hike will begin at 8 p.m. at The National Arboretum and tickets are $35.

Tuesday, August 28

This is a great event for those who love to cook and expand their culinary knowledge. Et Viola! will host “Belgian Supper Club: A New Recipe Meal Kit + Cooking Class Experience.” Attendees will partake in an interactive cooking demonstration, try out the monthly dish, and receive a tutorial of a new culinary technique from Chef Claudio Pirollo. Following the demonstration, attendees will get a meal kit to make a Belgian meal in their own kitchen at home. Tickets are $65 and the event starts at 6 p.m.
