Weekly Wins: Things to Do in DC 8/15 – 8/21

 

 

Happy hump day!

You’ve made it to Wednesday and to help you celebrate, we have some awesome weekly wins lined up for you.

Country music, yoga, American history, and beer rooftop parties are some of the events going on this week. Relax, try to stay cool in the August sun, and have some fun this week with these fun events!

Wednesday, August 15

There is no better way to celebrate wine Wednesday than to listen to awesome music and enjoy delicious food and wine. Brother Joscephus & The Love Revolution will be putting on a show Wednesday at 8 p.m. at City Winery. Barstool tickets are $20.

– Another fun event for live music lovers, head to Wilson Plaza to listen to free live music from 12 – 1 p.m. A variety of music will be played like Brazilian jazz, reggae rock, country, pop rock, and more!

– Learn how to master mobile photography with Tamera Darden, Founder and Creative Director of Darden Creative, at Fostr Collaborative. You will learn the five elements of a great flat lay, become familiar with the best mobile editing apps, develop a content calendar around your own schedule, learn how to create the best content from your phone, and Tamera will let you in on her mobile photography secrets. The best part is cocktails and materials are included! Tickets are $35 and the class begins at 6 p.m.

Thursday, August 16

Head to The Watergate Hotel Thursday night for a Brewmaster dinner at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be hosted by the Victory Brewmaster and co-founder, Bill Covaleski. Enjoy a five-course dinner with five Victory brews. Tickets are $60 and include food and beer.

– Take in the fresh air and a free barre3 class at 6:30 p.m. at the north field of Meridian Hill Park. The class is an hour long workout, and all levels are welcome. Don’t forget to bring your yoga mat or towel!

Friday, August 17

Learn about four wars that make up a large part of American history by taking a free DC War Memorials Walking Tour. You will visit The National World War I Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This free tour is a great opportunity to learn more about the wars and honor the 600,000 military personnel who lost their lives protecting our freedom. The tour begins at 6:15 p.m.

–  Who doesn’t love a good rooftop happy hour? Join the Farm at 55 M Street for happy hour from 5 – 8 p.m. Kick off your weekend by looking at stunning views of the District while enjoying a drink. Snacks aren’t provided, but you are highly encouraged to bring your own! Tickets are $10 for an individual, $15 for you and a friend, and include a complimentary drink.

– Spend your Friday night laughing away at General Shaw’s Comedy Showcase. Local stars such as Adrian Rooney, Natalie McGill, Jose Sanchez, Max Wolfson and more will be responsible for entertaining you in the funniest way possible at Shaw’s Tavern. Tickets are $10 and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Saturday, August 18

Luke Bryan will bring his What Makes You Country Tour to Jiffy Lube Live Saturday night at 7 p.m. Come out, have a good time, drink a few beers, and sing and dance along!

– A penthouse viewing party is the perfect excuse to have fun this weekend. La Vie Penthouse boasts gorgeous views, and a waterfront and rooftop terrace. There will be drink and food specials, and awesome DJs. The event is free, but you must RSVP online. Tickets are $10 at the door.

– Visit The Winery at Bull Run for a historical tour and tasting. On the tour, you will learn about the extensive Civil War history that took place on the grounds you walk on while tasting seven different wines. You will receive a souvenir wine glass at the end of the tour to take home. Tickets are $36.50 and the tour begins at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, August, 19

– If you’re looking to be healthy this Sunday Funday, check out Fitbit Local Sunday Funday Workout at 10 a.m. The workout is a 45-minute core cardio interval workout led by Fitbit Local Washington DC Ambassador Coach G. Owning a Fitbit is not necessary to participate. The event is free, and you can register online. However, it is first come first serve, so make sure to show up early because your online reservation doesn’t guarantee your spot!

Monday, August 20

When has karaoke ever disappointed you with a good time? If you and your friends love to sing karaoke, then channel your own Mariah Carey create an all-star team of singers in the District Karaoke league. The first round is Monday, August, 20 at Mackey’s Public House from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Registration is $65.

– Find your flow and stay hydrated at Yoga in the Haus feat. DJ Thunder Bunny at Courthaus Social. Why not spend your Monday night getting your exercise in and your drink on? The event starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $22, and $30 at the door if space is still available. Your ticket includes the yoga class and a drink.

Tuesday, August 21

– If you’re passionate about art and beer, join Phil Runco at DC Beer Week: The Art of Beer Panel Discussion at the Carriage House Gallery. The artists who will participate in the discussion are featured in the Heurich House Museum exhibit, “The Art of Beer,” and design the logos, labels, and posters for many local breweries. In addition to the discussion, you will be able to view the art and drink the beers the artists make popular with their work. Tickets are $15
