There’s Always More Where That Came From. Here’s Another #FrayLife Guide to Seasonal DC Brews

Spring forward! It’s finally that time of year when it doesn’t look like 9 p.m. at 4 p.m., and that beer you order at happy hour no longer has to match the darkness outside at the end of a winter work day.

Sit outside, relax and fill your glass with a crisper seasonal brew this spring while the city fills in the potholes with some of our #FrayLife favorite local breweries. The following floral saisons, session IPAs, tropical sours and more pair perfectly with patios, baseball games and cherry blossom festivities.

Atlas Brew Works

The Precious One Apricot IPA

It’s the beer that made headlines earlier this year thanks to the longest government shutdown in American history.  Atlas Brew Works was forced to hold off on selling 40 barrels worth of perishable IPA meant for sale across state lines.  Though the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau stopped approving beer labels during the record-breaking shutdown, this apricot puree-infused spring IPA saw through the delay.  Grab a taste of this juicy #shutdownbeer before the next congressional disagreement puts the craft beer industry at risk again.

Denizens Brewing Company

Never Doubt

March is Women’s History Month!  This brut IPA was brewed in collaboration with Anxo Cidery for the occasion using Mosaic and Bravo hops with notes of lemon, papaya and mango.  It’s a dry, tropical bubbly beer at 6.0% ABV that celebrates the area’s female badasses.

Port City Brewing

Ways & Means

Head across the river in Alexandria at Port City Brewing to taste Ways & Means, a session IPA brewed specifically for the return of spring.  It’s a hoppy, peppery, malty, crisp seasonal brew with a blend of specialty malts and rye. Ways & Means is smooth and digestible at only 4.5% ABV.

Bluejacket

Perfect Places

Perfect Places is a juicy hazy IPA brewed exclusively with New Zealand’s Nelson Sauvin hops.  The interesting range of flavors included in these hops are lemon, mango, black pepper and Sauvignon Blanc.

DC Brau

Joint Resolution

This spring DC Brau introduces a new IPA to their flagship lineup that hopheads will love.  Joint Resolution is an approachably bitter tropical fruit-flavored Hazy India Pale Ale at 5.5% ABV.  According to the press release, the “aromatic hops of this unfiltered beer will contribute flavors akin to Hawaiian fruit punch with mango, orange, tangerine and cannabis flower with overtones of citrus and resin permeating throughout.”

Three Stars Brewing Co.

Citra Lemon Peel Saison

This saison from Three Stars is perfect for both spring and summer.  The subtle hops and refreshing citrus notes from the lemon peel are an ideal pairing on a warm spring afternoon or summer barbecue.

Right Proper Brewing Company

Bosco

Bosco is Right Proper Brewing’s version of an American Table Sour.  It’s brewed with a blend of Pilsner, pale malt, wheat and dark grains.  This beer is described as tart, complex and fruity.
