Labor Day is upon us which means many people will be heading to vacation destinations for what is most likely their last summer hoorah.
If you don’t have any travel plans for Labor Day, that doesn’t mean you should sulk at home looking at your friends’ Instagram feeds, jealous of the frozen daiquiri their drinking on the beach.
With plenty of activities to do in the D.C. area this Labor Day weekend, your staycation can be even more fun than your friends’ vacation!
Labor Day Capitol Concert
On Sunday of Labor Day weekend, the National Symphony Orchestra will put on a Labor Day concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Not only do you get to listen to amazing musicians perform, but the concert is also free! The gates open at 3 p.m.
#FrayLifeTip: Save the partying for after the concert. No alcohol is permitted at the venue.
Labor Day Pub Crawl
What’s more American than celebrating Labor Day Weekend with a bar crawl? Clear your plans Saturday night for nothing less than an awesome time. The crawl features some of the top bars in DuPont Circle, and plenty of drink specials. Tickets are $14.99 with the promo price online, and they sell out fast. Make sure to snag one while you can! Registration for the crawl is at Sign of the Whale from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

DC Blues Festival
No need to travel to Memphis this Labor Day to listen to the incredible sounds of blues music.
Grab a chair and a friend this Labor Day, and enjoy the DC Blues Festival from 2 to 7 p.m. at Wunder Garten. The festival will feature Memphis Gold with special guest, Charlie Sayles. Rogue Johnsen Band, Fast Eddie and the Slowpokes, and Patty Reese Band will also perform. Craft beers will be served and there will be food trucks on site to keep you hydrated and your hunger satisfied.
#FrayLifeTip: This event is free! Don’t try to take any food or drink in to the event, as no outside food and drink is allowed. If you’re taking Metro to the event, Wunder Garten is one block from the NoMa-Gallaudet stop.
Labor Day Rooftop Silent Disco
If you’ve never been to a silent disco before, you need to go this Labor Day weekend. And if you have been to one before, we bet you’ve never been to one on a rooftop. From 8 to 11 p.m. Friday on the rooftop of The Embassy Row Hotel, participants will dance the night away to electronic dance beats, disco groove and throwback tunes, and a top 40 mix. Tickets are $16 per person, but if you have a group of five or more, it’s only $10 a person!
#FrayLifeTip: The dress for this event is cocktail or fashionable attire. Artisanal cocktails and other drinks will be available for purchase. Hooky Friday is also happening at The Embassy Row on Friday, which means you and a friend can play big Connect Four, or big Jenga poolside!
Labor Day Monument Lunch Cruise
Hop on board the Odyssey DC for a two hour Labor Day Lunch Cruise. On this cruise you will enjoy a three-course plated lunch, live music, and spectacular views of national landmarks. The cruise departs Monday at 12 p.m. from Gangplank Marina in Southwest DC. Tickets are $64.90 a person, and if you want to drink alcohol on board, you will need to purchase the drink package or a premier upgrade.

Watch the Nats all Labor Day Weekend
The Washington Nationals will play all Labor Day weekend, with a series against the Milwaukee Brewers, and a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Labor Day. Watching baseball and drinking cold beer sounds like an ideal way to spend Labor Day weekend to us! Head to The Bull Pen three hours before the games for pre-game drinks and appetizers.
