Plant Based Goodness: Guide to Veggie Friendly Eats in DC

 

 

With the surge of reusable, environmentally friendly products and conservationist lifestyles, vegan and vegetarian diets are becoming all the rage. Restaurants are now feeling the pressure to add these options to their menus, and a variety of entirely plant-based eateries have entered the scene!  Here are some ways to get your veggie on in the DC area. 

 

HipCityVeg 

Starting with fresh ingredients delivered to their store every morning, HipCityVeg allows you to eat healthy, while still enjoying burgers, fries, and shakes. Using ingredients like tempeh, portabella, and chick’n, you can dig into some nuggets or a buffalo burger all while getting a yummy helping of veggies! HipCityVeg is also all about composting, recycling, and keeping their space sustainable, so you can feel good about eating out!

 

 

NuVegan Cafe 

Whether you’re a new vegan or a seasoned vegan – or not a vegan at all! – NuVegan Cafe has options for you. Their goal is to redefine how veganism is viewed and make it easier for everyone to try it. They also plan to work on healthy eating education to help provide tools for living a natural lifestyle. 

 

Fare Well 

If you’re in the mood for a little comfort food, Fare Well is the place for you. As a bakery, diner, and bar, you can find anything you want, especially your yummy vegan eats. Grab a vegan breakfast sandwich at their all-day breakfast or pop in for a tempeh Reuben for lunch.  And make sure to stick around for their happy hour – every day from 4-7pm.

Fruitive

Fruitive’s motto is “Live Your Health”…and they deliver with a 100%  plant-based, certified organic menu. Try some of their liquid meals for something a little bit different, or a superberry bowl for an influencer-worthy Instagram post. And don’t forget to try the customer favorite Avocado Herb toast for some millennial vibes!

By Chef Jose Andres, Beefsteak aims to make your “fast food” healthier! The restaurant is not 100% vegetarian but gives vegetables the starring role. Try the gluten-free and vegan BEETsteak burger or one of their delicious veggie bowls. Got a friend who needs some meat in their life? You are able to add both vegan and non-vegan proteins to your meal, so there’s something for everyone!  

 

Elizabeth’s Gone Raw 

Looking for a fancy date night spot? Elizabeth’s Gone Raw is open only Friday and Saturday nights and if a fine dining experience.  As part of the fixed price, you’ll get a 7-course raw foods tasting menu. Check out their website for this month’s menu, featuring smoked watermelon gazpacho and raspberry sorbet.

Naked Lunch 

Living in Arlington? Not to worry – you can find some yummy plant-based eats there too! MOM’s Organic Market’s “Naked Lunch” offers some delicious organic and vegan food options, like their sushi bowl with miso-roasted tofu!  You can even make your own raw organic juices or try their yummy kombucha!
