Find the Best Farmers Market in Your Neighborhood

 

 

Living the #FrayLife means keeping it fresh and local when you shop for food, and doing so is one of the most exciting ways to experience summer in the city.

One of the best parts about the warmer months in DC is the abundance of awesome farmers markets offering an even bigger abundance of local produce, meats, dairy, and specialty products.

Nearly every neighborhood in the city has its own take on a weekly farmers market, and you really can’t go wrong at any of them. All feature rows of tents with amazing fruits, veggies and the other usual suspects, but they all also offer plenty of unique offerings.

Check out this useful guide to a few of the best scattered around D.C. and Virginia to figure out the best farmers market near you.

FRESHFARM Dupont Circle

Location: 1600 20th St NW

Hours: Sunday 8:30am – 1:30pm

Make your way to Dupont Circle on Sundays (year round!) to experience an impressive display of more than 50 farmers’ wares!  Pick up some household necessities at a few of the stalls, like flowers, plants, and soap. Make it a date and bring along your significant other to test out the wood-fired pizza and sip some District-made spirits and beers.

Eastern Market

Location: 225 7th St SE

Hours: Outdoor Market: Saturdays 7am – 6pm; Sundays 9am – 5pm

Sure, you’ve heard of Eastern Market – a popular location all year round. Don’t let its popularity stop you from getting in some summer time visits! Tuesday to Sunday you can check out the indoor merchants, including lots of yummy local produce, but be sure to stop by on Saturday and Sunday to check out the tents outdoors!  They feature neat products from paper crafts and pottery to wood carvings.

Columbia Heights Farmers Market

Location: 1400 Park Rd NW

Hours: Wednesdays 4 – 7pm; Saturdays (am – 1pm

This Farmers Market features an exciting opportunity – market share. Support your local farmers by paying week to week, and get a bag of a farmer’s crop for that week. Start with fruits and veggies or add in more, like eggs, meat and cheese. Market Share begins on May 16th. Not in need of a weekly supply of produce? Stop by Saturdays through December 9th and Wednesdays through October 11th to shop around the market stalls.

Brookland’s Monroe St. Farmers Market

Location: Monroe St NE

Hours: Saturdays 9am -1pm

What more could you ask for than a market where you can find all the most delicious, locally produced foods?  That would be a Farmers Market that also features yoga!  Head over to Brookland at 10am on Saturdays from the end of April through early December to join in on a $10 community yoga class from Bluebird Sky Yoga. The Farmers Market begins at 9am, so don’t forget to bring your shopping bag for some post-flow treats!

Pike Park Farmers Market

Location: 2820 Columbia Pike, Arlington

Hours: Sundays 9am – 1pm

If your stomping grounds are in Virginia, not to worry!  There are Farmers Markets peppered throughout NOVA too. Venture over to Columbia Pike’s Pike Park on Sundays from 9am-1pm to stock up on produce, meat and dairy from the region’s top vendors.  Check out their website for some fun history! The Pike served as a “farm to market” route for the Nation’s Capital as long as 200 years ago!

FRESHFARM Crystal City Market

Location: 945 G St NW

Hours: Saturdays 10:15am – 1pm

Just a short walk from the Crystal City metro stop, the FRESHFARM Crystal City Market is one not to be missed!  Over 20 farmers and producers partake in this market from all over the region – D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia! Check out Crystal Drive every Tuesday from April through Thanksgiving to get your fill of typical Farmers market fare, along with some other exciting options like handmade pastas, hot sauces, and ice cream!
