5 DC Races to Get Your Run On This Spring

 

 

Do you love running? Do you hate running, but have convinced yourself to run a race in 2018? Do you want to try some new distances? Or are you breaking old PRs?

Regardless of the relationship you have with running, the D.C. area has a race that’s right up your alley this spring.
From holiday-themed 5Ks to 2-day 10 miler challenges, check out our list of some of the most exciting races coming to the DMV in the next few months.

1. St. Pat’s Run

Looking for a run that has some holiday spirit? The St. Pat’s Run is coming up on March 4th.  Cruise along the Potomac River at a distance of your choice – even your kids can join the fun! Don’t forget to wear green!  

Date/Time: March 4 8:15am

Distances: 10k, 5k, Double (both 5k and 10k), Kids Dash

Price: $55, $48, $58, $10

2. Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series

The Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series is headed back to D.C. this year on March 10th – with even more on-course music! With three different distances, this race offers runners of all levels the chance to see D.C. in a new light, all while jamming to some awesome tunes!

Date/Time: March 10 7:30am

Distances: Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K

Prices: (subject to change) $129.99, $119.99, $49.99

#FrayLife Tip: If you’re a more serious runner, this marathon is also a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.  

3. Crystal City 5K Fridays

Ever wanted to run a month’s worth of races?  Well, you’re in luck!  In April, Pacers Running puts on Crystal City 5k Fridays. Every Friday in April, starting after work, you can hit the streets of Crystal City for a 5k. Whether you do one Friday, or all Fridays, this race series makes it easy – and fun – to get in your spring running.

Date/Time: Fridays in April 6:30pm

Distance: 5k

Price: (through March 16) $20 per race, $60 for all four

4. Parkway Classic

 

If you’re a history buff, this is the race for you!  Head out to Virginia to start at Mount Vernon Estate and make your way down the GW Parkway to Old Town, Alexandria.  You know this race is a good one – it was voted a favorite spring race by RunWashington Magazine!

Date/Time: April 22 8am

Distances: 10 Mile, 5k, Kids Dash

Price: (raise after February 23) $76, $45, $10  

#FrayLife Tip: Bring your stuff with you!  Even though the finish line is different from the starting line, race volunteers will load your checked items on a truck to meet you at the finish.

5. Georgetown 10-Miler (2-Day Challenge)

So you think you can run 10 miles? How about 20? Take the challenge and participate in this unique Georgetown Race. Each day consists of a 10 mile run down the Capital Crescent Towpath Waterfront. Not up for two days of running? No problem! You can register for either day on their own.

Date/Time: April 7 and 8 9am

Distances: 10 miles each day

Price: $70 one day, $90 two days
