33 of the Most Fun Things You Can Do in DC This April
Spring has officially sprung in DC, which means the city has come alive with runners, bikers, sports fans, brunchers, and cherry blossomers.
With so much going on, it’s hard to narrow down all the fun options. As always, we’ve got you covered with some of the best things to do coming to the District this April, but it’s up to you to get out there and make it a month for the books!
Thursday, 4/4
– Hockey season is still underway, so get ready to rock the red and head to Capital One Arena to watch the Washington Capitals take on the Montreal Canadiens.
Friday, 4/5
– Join Meaghan Trainor, MAX and Jake Miller for the 2nd annual Blossom Bash presented by iHeartRadio at the Anthem. Dance and sing along in celebration of Spring! Tickets range from $55-$95.
– Break out your running shoes and take part in the Race for Hope DC 5K. The race is free for runners, but donations are appreciated to help the organization fight against brain tumors.
– Get your sports to fix and watch some magic happen at Capital One Arena as the Washington Wizards take on the San Antonio Spurs. Scrounge the internet for some cheap tickets and don’t forget to have fun!
Saturday, 4/6
– You’re about to be in all your cherry blossom glory with the National Cherry Blossom Festival Petalpalooza. The event is free and will feature live music, a beer garden, all-ages activities and more. That’s not even the best part…there’s a fireworks show set for 8:30 p.m., weather permitting.
– Grab your old teammates and score big with tickets to the DC United vs. LAFC game at Audi Field! The forecast calls for a high of 71, so there’s really no excuse not to rep your team.
Sunday, 4/7
– Set to take place 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can take on the town and celebrate the cherry blossoms in the best way…by eating your way around the District! Your ticket purchase gets you access to six tastings on a self-guided tour, as well as the chance to let your tastebuds travel around the globe in one afternoon!
– Enjoy free admission to the National Museum of Women in the Arts because it’s the first Sunday of the month! Take this opportunity to visit a museum that may not always be at the top of your list, but certainly brings a lot of chances for learning.
Monday, 4/8
– If you’re looking for a unique way to start your week, consider checking out “Pulse” at the Hirshhorn Museum. It’s an immersive experience offering three installations of great art to view!
Tuesday, 4/9
– If you’re in the market for a good laugh, you’re in luck. Today marks the kick off of the 2nd Annual DC Comedy Festival set to take place at the Dupont Underground.
Thursday, 4/11
– Today marks the start of Damaged City 2019, an annual hardcore punk festival taking place from April 11th-14th. Tickets are available for purchase for each night of the festival.
Friday, 4/12
– Head to the Newseum for a night full of surprises. Your ticket purchase gets you to access to the museum exhibits, food and beverages, live performances, crafts, a silent disco (by yours truly) and more!
Saturday, 4/13
– Celebrate the cherry blossoms in all their glory at the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade presented by Events DC. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and take place along Constitution Ave. from 7th to 17th St. Standing along the route is free, but get there early if you want a prime view!
– Raise your glass to DC Wine Fest! Spring Edition. Your ticket purchase allows sampling premium wine to your heart’s content, all while enjoying the live entertainment.
– DC Pizza and Whiskey Fest, featuring unlimited pizza and whiskey pours, is set to take place from 1-4 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Bullpen. Your ticket gets you admission into the Dugout and Rooftop of the Bullpen, where the tastings will take place, but admission to the Bullpen is free. A cash bar will also be available.
Sunday, 4/14
– Catch the end of the 2019 Washington Auto Show before it goes! Tickets are on sale for specific VIP tours and for general admission to the showroom.
– Experience Queen Latifah off the screen and in real life at the Kennedy Center as part of the Bridge Concert Series that is equal parts R&B, Hip Hop and jazz. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are still available!
Tuesday, 4/16
– Walk back through history to celebrate Emancipation Day with a free two-hour walk through Washington DC. Due to high interest in the event, the tour will be given via microphones and handouts to ensure all participants are absorbing the information focusing on Underground Railroad activities in DC, Maryland and Virginia.
Wednesday, 4/17
– If you always wanted to be a pole vaulter in high school but never had the guts to try, now’s your chance! Join DC Fray for an adult pole vaulting adventure for beginners. Tickets may be $25, but the stories you’ll tell are priceless.
Friday, 4/19
– Live a little, love a lot, and head to the Anthem for Kenny Chesney: Songs for the Saints Tour! Get yourself in a summer state of mind and sing along to some country classics.
– Get excited because Hungry Human Hippos on Ice is back! Gather a team of 4-6 players and join us at the Medstar Complex for a night of old school competition.
Saturday, 4/20
– Beer, please! Head over to Nationals Park for the infamous DC Beer Fest and get your drink on. Tickets are available for two different sessions, and the event is rain or shine.
– If you were too slow on the draw for yesterday’s competition, today’s your day! Grab your hungriest friends and sign up for a chance to turn HHH into a professional sport.
Sunday, 4/21
– Happy Easter Sunday! Call in the troops and treat yourself to an Easter brunch celebration at Ted & The Bully Bar. Brunch goes from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., with a rate of $60 per adult and $22 per child.
– It’s time to part ways with the cherry blossoms until next year, so it’s officially your last chance to grab a spring drink at the Cherry Blossom Pub (Pop Up Bar)!
Wednesday, 4/24
– Sometimes dating apps just don’t do the trick, so why not try some old fashioned speed dating? Join us at Big Chief for a chance to meet a lover for only $25! We’ll be there to help you through it.
– Turn up with Kodak Black at the Anthem for his Dying to Live Tour. Tickets start as low as $25.
Friday, 4/26
– Join us for Open Bar: NYC Meets DC at Grand Central, an event bar event where we will celebrate the 00’s! It’s been almost 20 years sink Y2K, so grab your ticket and get ready to throw it back.
– Head to Echostage to see Galantis pump up the crowd at this 18+ event.
Saturday, 4/27
– Root, root, root for the home team at Nationals Park! Grab a ticket and watch the Washington Nationals take on the San Diego Padres on home turf.
– Today marks DC’s first Arbor Day Festival, a celebration of trees and people at Oxon Run Park. There will be local jazz, nature walks and other activities to enjoy. Food can be brought in or purchased at the event, and be sure to bring blankets or chairs because seating is limited.
Monday, 4/29
– It might not be Broadway, but Ford’s Theatre still provides an authentic theatre experience for all who attend. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance of Into the Woods Washington DC are on sale now.
