It’s almost spring time and we cannot be more excited! Warmer weather means more fun outdoor events like festivals and happy hours on patios. It also means that the city gets a little bit of a new lease on life.

There are some insanely fun happenings this month, from celebrating female artists in honor of International Women’s Day to St. Patrick Day bar crawls, that will have you living your best #Fraylife regardless of what you’re into.

March 1

– Every first Friday of the month, art galleries in the Dupont Circle neighborhood host a Dupont Circle Art Walk, where they open their doors to the public and serve light refreshments. You’ll be able to experience art from diverse galleries and enjoy some of the neighborhood’s beautiful architecture as well. Plus, it’s a fun, free, and educational way to start off your month. Plus, check out other neighborhoods’ first Friday events.

– Living in Washington D.C. means you have the privilege of experiencing many different cultures. Start your month off on a most interesting note by attending The Russian Embassy’s “Maslenitsa” event, which is equivalent to our Mardi Gras. It will be a formal sit-down dinner at the embassy followed by music, dancing, and entertainment.

– And now for the most exciting part of March, the Cherry Blossom Pop Up Bar is back on March 1st and on through April, 29th! Grab a themed drink and be mesmerized by the several rooms of spring-themed decorations. Just make sure to be prepared to wait in line for several hours or go on a Monday.

March 2

–  Mardi Gras isn’t just a celebration in New Orleans! The Wharf will be hosting a fabulous Mardi Gras party on Saturday from 2-6 pm, with a parade and everything. Spend time at your favorite restaurants overlooking the water, perch yourself up on one of the outdoor swings, or simply blend into the crowd as you watch the floats go by. There will, of course, be plenty of music, dancing, and drinking. All the elements of a great community party.

–  If you love a delicious food event, you won’t want to miss the Spring edition of the Blagden Alley African Food Tasting. You’ll be sampling an assortment of West African dishes, and there will be an option in pricing depending on the number of samples you choose. And it’s also recommended you take some time and explore all the cool murals in Blagden Alley. Aside from appreciating them, it’s a perfect photo opportunity.

March 4

– Love tequila and Mexican cuisine? Oyamel, the popular Jose Andres restaurant in downtown D.C. is hosting an all-inclusive party with 14 different types of tequila and mescal tastings, along with plenty of food, Latin music, dancing, and even a photo booth. Grab your tickets here.

– Since it is a Monday night, you may not be feeling the tequila party, but you still want to grab a drink and have a little fun somewhere, so why not head to bingo at Kingfisher? Bingo is the easier, less intense version of trivia, but still equally as fun. And there’s a chance to win prizes.

March 5

–  There are going to be a lot of women-themed events this week in honor of International Women’s Day, and why not start off with one that’s important and for a great cause. Every week Dacha Beer Garden (a spot that’s worth checking out in its own right) hosts a “Cause Tuesday,” and Tuesday, Mach 5th, will be partnering with Planned Parenthood. Don’t miss out on this great happy hour, happening 4-7 pm.

March 6

– Looking to finally meet someone special, that you can also have an interesting conversation with? Speed dating is a quick, almost exhilarating way to do that, and you’re only committed to two minutes at a time. If you’re a man in the LGBTQ community, join us for our speed dating event and happy hour at Pitchers.

March 7

–  Every month The Phillips Collection hosts a “Phillips after 5” event, which is celebrated with a theme. This month, the spotlight is on “Mujeres Radicales,” or in English, radical women. Everyone from musicians to artists to even bartenders will present their talents, and you’ll be able to experience a bit of it all. You can pick up your tickets here.

March 8

–   Celebrate International Women’s Day by heading out to Georgetown and doing a little shopping, while also enjoying a Women in the Arts Pop Up event across a variety of stores on M Street NW. All the showcasing artists will be women with an entrepreneurial spirit. You’ll also be able to enjoy music, light refreshments, and very interesting company.  

March 9

–  There is still time this winter to go on a late-night snow tubing (adult) field trip. You’ll start the party at Irish Times, and then a #DCFray bus will pick you up and take you to Avalanche Express, where you’ll be able to enjoy two hours of tubing. And the bus there and back will be its own kind of adventure, with drinks, games, and snacks.

– HopFest will mark the start of the beer/wine festival season. DC Brau Brewing Company will be hosting the local breweries participating, and you’ll have a chance to try them all with your ticket. Learn about who’s coming and what to expect here.

March 11

–  Bored on a Monday night and think your cat is the cutest cat? It’s not really an event, but The Washingtonian Magazine is having a “Cutest Cat” contest this month, where you can submit a photo of your feline, and try for a feature in the publication. How cool would it be if your pet was the start of Washington D.C.?

March 12

– Think you know your Disney trivia? Test your skills with Disney movie trivia at Pinstripes in Georgetown.

March 14

–  There’s something so Night at the Museum about being in a museum after hours, and every month the National Gallery of Art hosts an after-hours presentation, Evening at the Edge, where they closely highlight a section or particular artist in the museum. March’s theme is, as you may have guessed it, women. This will be the time to “discover their stories with pop-up talks, craft your own fierce female superhero, and get into formation with performances from the internationally renowned, all-female tap sensation Syncopated Ladies.”

March 16

– Oh, St. Patrick’s Day, one of the only days of the year it’s acceptable to wear too much green and get a little too sloppy drunk. Since it falls on a Sunday this year and some people need to get up for their jobs in Monday morning, D.C. is partying on Saturday. Come out to the 2019 Shamrock Crawl, a bar crawl that will include more than 15 Dupont area bars, with drink specials all day, and a whole lot of fun.

–  This is a truly unique event that only DC Fray can put on for you. Remember Hungry Hippos, the game you played as a kid? Well, we’ve brought it to life and on ice at the Medstar Iceplex. You’ll actually be the hippo and everyone gets a chance to compete. While you’re taking a break, enjoy the happy hour special and meeting new friends.

March 20

–  Another speed dating event hosted by us, this one open to everyone. We’ll meet at Big Chief, and you’ll have four minutes to get to know someone over several rounds. Of course, there will also be food, drinks, and raffle prizes to keep it going. The next day, the DC Fray staff will send you your best matches, and hopefully, you’ll be able to set up that second date.

March 22

– Friday, March 22 marks the start of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which is an event that brings thousands of national and international crowds into Washington D.C. The festival lasts until April 14th with an event practically every night. Make sure to check out the full schedule to know which ones you want to attend.

March 27

–  If you’re looking to support a great cause and make a night out of it, you should check out the FRNds event, which celebrates the work of the Food Recovery Network. This will be a free evening of food, drinks, and celebration, with a toast from the executive director highlighting the accomplishment of an organization that works to reduce food waste and provide access to food for those that need it most.

March 26

– Join us for weekly bingo at Pizzeria Paradiso. Another chance to win fun prizes and spend quality time with friends.

March 29

–  Nostalgic about your teenage years in the early 2000s? It’s crazy to think that 2000 was almost 20 years ago, but it’s true. And what better way to celebrate your formative years than with an Awkward 2000s Party at Crown and Crow. Show up in a “costume” of the early 2000s and be ready to party all night. There will be an open bar for as long as it lasts, and the entire event is completely free.

March 30

–  The Blossom Kite Festival is a D.C. tradition and part of the festivities of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. This festival will show off the talent of kite makers across the U.S. You’ll also be able to bring your own kite or purchase one on-site at the activity station.   

March is finally the month people start crawling out of their apartments and back out in the city! As the weather (hopefully) continues to warm up, DC will be full of people drinking on patios, walking along the national mall, and just enjoying their time outside.
